(PCSL) has been operating independently since 1997. The first residential program was developed in Fort Saint John, BC. to address court orders mandating “residential based treatment” for youth involved in sexualized related offenses. Shortly afterwards , funding agencies in the Lower Mainland initiated referrals for the development of these and related support services, specific to mental health disorders and developmental delays . Therefore , residential staffed facilities were set up in the Westside of Vancouver , Burnaby, as well as Abbotsford and Chilliwack. PCSL’s service mandate focused on children and adults with neuro-behavioural based disorders, inclusive of pervasive developmental disorders, autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit disorder, fetal alcohol syndrome, fetal alcohol affect, as well as a range of complex and challenging behavioural and mental health issues (substance abuse, multiple criminal and violent offence histories, etc). https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/5f07c77d6b874a5b2057b83f/1602178358199-2EKZVB6JIDNT3CKF38MC/tim-mossholder-GmvH5v9l3K4-unsplash.jpg Who we are In the following years alternate programming was also developed in the area of community outreach and inclusion. The specific intent was to address stereotypes relating to the individuals supported by PCSL, and clearly demonstrate the true value of the diverse abilities presented by these individuals. Full inclusion into our communities as related to physical wellbeing, social participation and employment were at the center of this initiative. In 2017 Pathway Community Services Ltd. determined a slight shift in its overall service mandate, in order to better highlight its overall vision and core philosophy. Focus was, once again re directed to the specific needs of children and youth in care. Although PCSL continues to provide full-time long -term placements for youth and children in care, the growing demand for “respite support” for families in our greater communities has been recognized , and has allowed PCSL an opportunity to develop a “rotating respite support model” . This has been highly successful and has filled a needed service within our communities.
